Hi,
I need an Order of friendship. I don't mind if it's a copy (must be priced as a copy of course) because it is to hang on a General's uniform. Documentation not required either. I started out primarily as a uniform collector (KGB and Air Force, Army and MVD)and not a medal collector. I dress the uniforms and have ended up with a huge collection of medals.
Unfortunately I have nothing to trade because I need everything I have.
Best regards,
Adrian Streather,
Switzerland.

Hi Adrian,
I will ask around, have seen good fakes but no "real copies", there is a site on my links page that sells copies, have you tried there?

To Whom it May Concern,
I am interested in purchasing Medal Ushakov and Order of Patriotic War 1st Class Type 2 Variation 1. I live in New York and would like to receive an estimated amount for the purchase of these medals and information on how I can buy them. Thank you for your help and I happened to notice you are from Moldova as well, looks like it really is a small world. I appreciate your help.
Thank You,
Sergey
----------------
Hi Serghei,

not from Moldova, just lived there for some time. As to an Ushakov medal...upwards of 2000-3000 USD, plus document or mint condition, but there are fakes as you know well.

Type 2 patriotic war, honestly do not know now, they simply disappeared of the market (except regular dealers, see their websites).

Greetings,
I am also a serious collector of USSR orders, medals and especially the WW II distinctive service badges for outstanding cook, mechanic, etc., etc.
I am located in Wisconsin, USA but have a friend in Lithuania who has traveling contacts looking for these items.
Your web site is wonderful.
Where are you located?
Best wishes,
Colin

My father in law was in the Soviet Army in the immediate post war era. He told me that he was part of a Soviet army that was ready to occupy Romania when some people there agitated for independence from the Soviet bloc. In any event they didn't move in, as the Romanian army felt it was better that they do the job. He told me that he was awarded a medal for this event but has lost it. Would anyone be able to identify its name please?
----------------
Could be any medal of quite a few, probably military, either for merrit, years of service, for fraternal (even though this one came into being much later) etc. but there was no medal for the event as such, sorry, cannot help more...the reason would have been stipulated in the order by which the medal was awarded

Hello Oldrich and best wishes for this year.
I´ve been offerred for buy The Order of Kutuzov, 2nd class type 2, Screwback, Variation 1. Is it possible that the hand-engraved serial number would be placed at the 7 o´clock position (instead of 5, where it usually seems to be), or is it just a prove of a fake? Otherwise the piece seems allright to me. Best Regards Ilkka

Enjoy using your site as a resource. I am a newcomer to collecting Soviet orders, medals and military badges and you site is very useful. My question is what impact will the enforcement of the Russian heritage laws have on collectors? I am concerned that many items will no longer be available from the best sources inside the old USSR.
----------------
Than you John for your kind words. As to the heritage laws, which one do you have concretely in mind, quite some time ago the penal code was amended to penalise the xport of a number of items, including Soviet era awards. The immediate impact was higher prices and seller disappearing form the Arbat in Moscow. Custms also make it an issue when you leave the country to now also find awards...in practice they either confiscate or one bribes to shut the eye again. Bribing is however illegal too so one can land into even greater trouble. Generally it is an issue and only experts know how to move pieces, especially the more valuable ones.
Hope this helps, if you send me more details of the exat law can look even at the Russian text.

I've been given three Soviet medals, obtained in Afghanistan. One is the order of maternal glory , third class and has a serial number on it.
I can only guess at the fate of the unfortunate owner but I would like to reunite the medal with the lady's relations if I can.
Have you any suggestions please?
----------------
Sorry Tony, vcannot help on this one, its exceedingly difficult to track owners especially as lists of civilian medals were not kept centrally but even by Republic ministries. Oldrich
