Prices going down for a change???

For the first time in years one of my friends called from Moldova in january 2009 that prices for soviet orders and medals are going down...

I hope to get some details whether its just a blip or something serious with Moscow buyers who have evidently been inflating demand for years have cooled off...

Prices keep moving up - Order of Lenin T.6 recently sold for 2750 USD. . .

I recently visited Prague and Vienna and was surprised how high prices of Soviet awards are in the Czech Republic. But when I came to Vienna I was even more surprised (Order of Labour 1.100, Order of October Revolution 200 - in Euros!).

September 2007

I have recently travelled extensively through Ukraine, Moldova and Belarus and discovered that the only medals for sale are either all fakes (including declared copies) or just simply suspicious and outrageously priced pieces... . Gone are the days of buying. A 20 years RKKA 2500 USD no sweat. An Order of the Red Banner of Labour, the most common type 50 USD!

Prices of Soviet awards in Ukraine October 2003, December 2003 and February 2004

A friend regularly reports prices of Soviet awards in Ukraine and concludes that all markets take cue from Kiev (prices are in USD and are applicable also to Odessa, Kiev, Lvov, Rovno, Uzhgorod and Chernovtsi).

First prices are from mid-October 2003 and the second from December 2003. The last price is from February 2004.

The last prices that are in BOLD are from Moldova in November 2008 kindly provided by my good friend Zhenja.

(There are so few prices because at the last collectors club so few are on offer!)

Conclusion:

Prices have definitely been going up ifwe compare October 2003 and February 2004 - but some are even higher than in the US from reputable dealers! In 2007 the trend has not stopped and kept going up.

Prices have dropped considerably since 2009.

The real problem is that there are more and more fakes around and they are getting better. Unscrupulous dealers are in no short supply either ... conclusion... what will be next is the question ... will the market collapse?

The fellow who rons the site posted 2011 pricelists for orders and medals.
